CHOP-CHOP! — It’s officially official. MARIT STILES will take the reins of the NDP on February 4, a month earlier than planned.
Why it matters: Stiles ran unopposed for the leadership, so there was not much point in dilly-dallying over her acclamation. And the quicker, the better, according to several politicos.
“Just get it over with,” said one senior NDPer, who noted that Stiles could use the extra time to build up her profile (something that was hindered without a contested leadership race) — especially in the House, which reconvenes a couple weeks later on February 21.
