So much for staying out of it. Premier DOUG FORD says he’ll be voting for MARK SAUNDERS in Toronto’s mayoral election — but he’s still promising to work with anyone, including frontrunner OLIVIA CHOW.
“I’ve always said I’m staying out of the race,” Ford conceded, “and I have the right, like anyone else, to put a sign on my lawn. I put Mark’s sign on my lawn. I’ll be voting for Mark, but vote for whoever you want to vote for, that’s your choice.”
The pair go way back. Saunders ran (unsuccessfully) for the PCs in 2022, and enjoyed plum government appointments as a special adviser on Ontario Place and on the Covid vaccine rollout.
As for Chow: “I’ll work with her and we’ll sit down and come up with common ground.” The Premier previously said a “lefty” wouldn’t be good for the city.
The actual announcement: Ford was in Ottawa to dole out cash to train electricians.
