BUCKLE UP — It’s the first full week of the new year and 2024 is already shaping up to be a consequential one for all political parties at Queen’s Park. Here are the big questions they’re facing:

For the Tories, it’s all about changing the channel from the Greenbelt debacle, which rocked the governing party in 2023. It’s a mid-mandate year, typically when the powers-that-be lay low, saving their vote-grabbing goodies and policies for closer to the campaign. But for the Ford government, it will critical to show the electorate they’re making moves on their promises, especially when it comes to housing and health care, which remain top of mind for the public.

Possible flies in the ointment: There’s no timeline for the RCMP’s Greenbelt investigation, which has the potential to knock the Tories down a couple of pegs. Meanwhile, the PCs are staring down the threat of a new Oppo critic in Liberal leader BONNIE CROMBIE.
