It’s early days yet, but some of the province’s political parties are faring better than others when it comes to fundraising during the federal election. Campaign-era disclosures are starting to roll in from Elections Ontario, and if the numbers hold, the parties that are gunning for cash are coming out on top.
That would be the PCs and the Greens, who have ramped up money-making email blitzes and, at least in the ruling party’s case, fundraising events. According to the August disclosures so far, those parties brought in the biggest chunk of cash in the days leading up to the writ drop — when rumours were flying that it was coming — and during the campaign.
By the numbers: The Tories earned at least $140,507 during that period, and $210,688 in August overall. The Greens raked in $9,889 — $8,762 of which was deposited around campaign time.
