Electric steelmaking, the illegal wildlife trade, and beefing up support for meat processors
November 12 — The Ford government is taking credit for Algoma Steel’s new low-emission Electric Arc Furnace and the electrification of steel production, and touting its forthcoming changes to the Far North Act as a means to “unlock critical minerals and bring economic prosperity to Ontario’s North.”
“Early in our mandate, our government stepped up for the nearly 9,000 retired steel workers by protecting their pensions and providing $60 million in financing to fund much needed capital expenditures in the plant. Next, we cut job killing red tape and made hydro rates competitive and predictable, which allowed Algoma Steel to emerge stronger than ever.
