First in Queen’s Park Observer — GRITS SPLIT — Battle lines are being drawn in the race for Liberal party president.

The three-way contest features heavy-hitter KATHRYN MCGARRY, a former cabinet minister and mayor of Cambridge, as well as party execs FADI EL MASRY and NATALIE HART (Catch up on our Q+As with McGarry and El Masry here, and stay tuned for our chat with Hart later this week.)

Where they stand on the leadership election process could make or break them. After failing to get recognized party status in back-to-back elections, the Grits are reviewing their leadership selection process. The hot debate is whether the party should switch from a delegated convention to a one-member-one-vote (OMOV) system.

Unlike her rivals, McGarry has come out as neutral on the debate, saying she will implement whatever system members vote for. El Masry and Hart prefer a weighted OMOV system.

El Masry is taking fresh aim at McGarry in an email blasted to card-carrying Grits.
