LRT DEBACLE — Transportation Minister CAROLINE MULRONEY insists the PC government’s move to call a public inquiry into the problem-plagued Ottawa LRT system isn’t about politics. Nor is she sweating the possibility of setting a precedent for similar probes into the Ford government’s own plans for controversial projects including the Bradford Bypass and Highway 413.

“I’m concerned about safety” and “value for money and getting answers and accountability,” Mulroney said when pressed on the $2-billion, oft-derailed system.

While Liberal politicians have been tied to the project, Mulroney said politics has nothing to do with the decision to look into the books, noting the government held back 10 per cent of stage one funding last summer “over safety concerns, and we’ve been monitoring this since then.”
