WHILE YOU WERE COTTAGING — STEVE CLARK has stepped down as Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister — but the Greenbelt headache isn’t over for the Ford government.
Officially: Days after digging in his heels following an ethics report found he shirked his ministerial duties and let his chief of staff run amok on the Greenbelt, Clark submitted his resignation on Labour Day, saying he didn’t want to be a “distraction” on the hot-potato file. The career politician is sticking around as MPP for Leeds–Grenville–Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes.
Behind closed doors: There was an emergency caucus call around noon on Monday, where the Premier indicated he would be changing up his inner circle following Clark’s resignation. Sources tell me Clark was facing pressure from the Premier’s Office — the feeling was he had to resign rather than get the boot — but DOUG FORD was gracious and thanked Clark profusely at the meeting.
