ABOVE THE FOLD
BOOTED — The MICHAEL MANTHA mystery thickens.
MARIT STILES says she kicked the longtime Algoma—Manitoulin MPP off the NDP benches following allegations of “misconduct” involving allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a staffer.
Officially: Details are scant. Stiles put out a Saturday morning statement that’s short on specifics, to protect the identity of the complainant. Mantha will sit as an Independent while a third party investigation continues. “I take my responsibility to create a safe workplace seriously,” Stiles said.
Unofficially: Sources in Stiles’s inner circle tell me the information from the third party investigator so far “was enough for the leader to feel he needs to step out of caucus” and the allegations are “serious.”
Stiles also inherited the situation when she took the party helm in February — the complaint was received in December, said one source.
