THE SPIN: The results are in, and each provincial party has some takeaway to be happy about, insiders of all partisan stripes tell me.
— Opposition parties are seeing federal Conservative Leader ERIN O’TOOLE’s failure to capture more seats in the make-or-break-it province as a sign that support for Premier DOUG FORD and the PCs are waning, just eight months out from the provincial election next June.
— The Tories aren’t buying it. Ford laid low for much of the campaign, and while he was benched the last time around with ANDREW SCHEER at the federal helm, his polling numbers are relatively better amid Covid — and the line from the PCs has been that they’re busy getting Ontario through a fourth wave and to recovery.
