ABOVE THE FOLD

MINISTER MANHANDLED — Lately, the Ford government has had a knack for dousing gasoline on its political problems — and TODD McCARTHY’s scrum with reporters on the Service Ontario saga is another notch in that belt.

What happened: The Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery was physically blocked and prodded multiple times by staff attempting to cut off a tense Q-and-A with reporters. McCarthy stuck to his talking points but didn’t appear to get the hint from staff, so the scrum went long. At one point McCarthy suggested ministry officials could release the business case for relocating Service Ontario centres to Staples and beyond (more on that below).

Current and former comms staff described it to me as “unhinged” and a “train wreck.”

“I don’t remember ever seeing a Minister removed physically by staff like that.”

Shot: The raw footage. Chaser: LUCAS MEYER’s scrum breakdown.

One theory as to why the scrum was so intense
