This morning could erupt in fresh fireworks over the keffiyeh ban as New Democrats make another attempt at reversing the Speaker’s hot-potato ruling.
On the chamber floor: Oppo Leader MARIT STILES will move another unanimous consent motion seeking to reverse the ban on the traditional Arab head scarf that has become a symbol of the Palestinian cause — and something Speaker TED ARNOTT has said is too overtly political for the House, causing Premier DOUG FORD in particular a caucus headache.
The latest: Stiles is expected to move her UC motion just before Question Period and after her morning presser on the matter, roughly 10 a.m.
All eyes — and ears — will be on the Tory benches to see who might shut it down by yelling “no.” PCs who agree with the Speaker’s ban were asked to sit out the vote last week, but ROBIN MARTIN defied orders and blocked the NDP’s motion.
