What a difference a year makes.

This week marks one year since Premier DOUG FORD triggered a snap election, capitalizing on the political moment and leaning into the Captain Canada schtick amid a leadership vacuum in Ottawa and a burgeoning tariff war with the U.S.

Now, he and his fellow Premiers are rallying behind Prime Minister MARK CARNEY as trade uncertainty becomes the norm and as he tries to balance competing interests between the provinces.

And what a difference a week (and a trip to a pizza shop on his home turf) makes.

After criticizing Carney for easing tariffs on Chinese EVs — something Ford said would be terrible for Ontario — the Premier is lauding Carney’s auto strategy.

Canada’s first ministers are gathering in Ottawa this week, including a Council of the Federation meeting plus a formal meeting with the PM today — and they’re putting up a united front, even as differences persist coast to coast.
